The Brief

Our client wanted to transform an untidy garage into a bright, organised and practical extension of their home. Although the garage offered plenty of space, it had gradually become filled with everyday household items, DIY equipment and sporting gear. Exposed pipework, the boiler, water softeners and electrical services also dominated one wall, making the space feel cluttered despite its generous size.

The brief was to create a garage that worked harder for everyday life — with significantly more storage, a brighter and more modern appearance, concealed services and a durable, easy-to-maintain floor, while still retaining enough space to comfortably park the family car.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge was making the most of the available space without allowing storage to take over.

A large section of wall was already occupied by essential services, including the boiler, hot water cylinder, water softeners and associated pipework. These all needed to remain accessible for future maintenance, but the client wanted them completely concealed within the finished design.

There was also a need to create dedicated areas for different types of storage, from DIY tools and sporting equipment to seasonal household items.

The solution needed to be highly practical, but it also needed to feel like a carefully designed part of the home rather than a traditional garage filled with storage products.

The Design

Every element of the garage was carefully planned to maximise storage capacity while preserving valuable floor space.

A bespoke full-height utility cupboard was designed and constructed to conceal the boiler, hot water cylinder, water softeners and associated pipework. Despite being hidden from view, everything remains fully accessible for servicing and maintenance.

Around the garage, premium tall metal storage cabinets provide generous, secure storage for household belongings, while a dedicated workstation creates a practical area for DIY and everyday projects.

The workstation combines an oak-effect worktop with drawer units, overhead cupboards and a pegboard, keeping frequently used tools close at hand while maintaining a clean and organised appearance.

The walls were transformed with our premium white Slatwall storage system, creating a flexible backdrop for hooks, shelving, baskets and other accessories. This allows the storage to be adapted as the family's needs change.

To make use of otherwise unused space, a suspended overhead storage rack was also installed. This provides additional room for seasonal and less frequently used items without taking up valuable floor space.

Finally, the existing floor was replaced with a seamless resin flooring system, creating a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surface with a clean, premium finish.

The Result

In just ten days, the garage was transformed from a cluttered storage area into a bright, beautifully organised and highly functional space.

Essential services have disappeared behind bespoke cabinetry, everyday items now have a dedicated place, and the combination of white Slatwall, considered storage and seamless resin flooring has completely changed the feel of the room.

The new floor also helps reflect natural light throughout the garage, making the space feel brighter and more spacious.

Most importantly, the design has achieved the balance our client wanted: generous storage and practical workspace, without compromising the ability to comfortably park the family car.

The finished garage is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can turn an everyday storage space into a premium, purposeful extension of the home.

FAQ

How can I create more storage in my garage without losing floor space?

A well-planned garage can make use of walls and ceiling space to significantly increase storage capacity without taking over the floor. Slatwall, tall storage cabinets and suspended overhead racks can all be combined to keep belongings organised while leaving enough room to park your car comfortably.

Can you conceal boilers, pipework and other garage services?

Yes. Existing services such as boilers, hot water cylinders, water softeners and pipework can be incorporated into bespoke cabinetry. The design can conceal them from view while retaining access for future servicing and maintenance.

Can a garage have both storage and a practical workspace?

Absolutely. Storage can be designed around the way you use your garage, with dedicated areas for tools, DIY equipment, sporting equipment and other household items. A purpose-built workstation can also provide a practical space for projects without compromising the rest of the garage.

What flooring works well with a garage storage system?

Seamless resin flooring is a popular choice for a premium garage transformation. It provides a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean surface that complements fitted storage while creating a clean, contemporary finish throughout the space.
